Start 2019 with Clarity and Intention
If you want to be a more successful leader, speaker, entrepreneur you need to start somewhere. As a coach, I have found the best place to start is to gain Clarity and Focus, to set Simple Clear Goals and to develop an Action Plan. This is where vision boards can be extremely powerful.
The Power of Vision and Vision Boards
Scientists have proven that thinking about a goal is just as important as taking action towards that goal. So, going through the process of crafting a vision, displaying it where you can see it and think about it everyday helps speed up the process of attaining that goal.
A vision board is a great way to clarify and focus on life goals. Whether it’s for personal success or business success, creating a vision board is a great way to kick start the year or a new quarter.
Stories of personal successes
Katy Perry made a vision board when she was 9 years old. She explains that, “Her teacher asked the class to make a “vision board” — a collage of images cut out from magazines that represents the dreams and aspirations you hope to manifest in life. The year was 1993 and Selena had just won a Grammy Award, so nine-year-old Katy chose a photo of the young Latin pop singer holding her golden statuette.” Fifteen years later, Perry was nominated for her first Grammy Award.
John Assaraf, a successful entrepreneur and brain researcher who built multiple multi-million dollar companies in the fields of Internet software, real estate, life and business coaching and brain research. Assaraf was featured in the movie, The Secret where he credited a lot of his success to making vision boards.
Ellen DeGeneres Ellen put together a vision board about her dreams of being on the cover of Oprah’s magazine. For nearly every issue Oprah had been the cover girl, and then Ellen got her dream!
Beyonce has a picture of an Academy award right near her treadmill that she looks at daily so she can keep her goals literally right in front of her. The movie Dream Girls that she starred in was nominated for an Academy award.
Stories of business successes
I recently came across an article by Robin Sharma, motivational life and business coach. He mentioned using vision boards with top executives, CEOs and business men he coaches. People pay thousands of dollars to attend his coaching conferences and the vision board session is the most highly regarded session. Many of the business executives have found that at the end of the year they have achieved most of what was on their vision board.
Here is an extract from an article I found on Forbes.com
Successful small business owners say they started their businesses because they had a vision and followed it. And as they pushed forward with their plans it was important for them to keep their eyes on the big picture.
- Almost two-thirds of small business owners believe that visualizing goals helps them map and develop their business plans.
- One in five small business owners used a vision board or other visual representation when starting their business; 76% of those business owners said that today their business is where they envisioned it would be when they started it.
- Eighty-two percent of small business owners that used a vision board from the get-go reported that they have accomplished more than half the goals they included on that board.
This appears to be especially important for Millennial entrepreneurs, who embrace visualization in goal setting. Nearly 60% of Millennials said they used a vision board when establishing their business; 89% used one when developing their business plan.
If you are like me, you may have heard about similar workshops and thought to yourself, “Ah, I can do that myself at home.” Absolutely, I believe you can. However, to date, have you done a vision board? Will you put yourself first and make time to do this for YOU? If you have done this, congratulations! You are part of a very small percentage of people who do commit to doing this every year or every quarter. On the other hand, if you have not put a personal vision board together, then keep reading…
