Many of us start New Year with a great list of resolutions and by February/March we have forgotten most of them.
About five years ago, I came across an amazing concept called My One Word Resolution (http://myoneword.org/). I read about it, found it easy and simple to apply and decided to give it a go… guess what! It worked… and here I am, 5 years later, writing a little blog to share this concept with you!
A heads up: I am a woman of faith and the My One Word website seeks God’s input, prayer and scripture readings when choosing your word for the year. If you are fine with Christian references, please visit the website (http://myoneword.org/) for more detailed instructions. If not, keep reading to see how you can apply this powerful concept to your New Year, whether you are a person of faith or not.
My One Word: Choosing one word for the year gives you clarity by narrowing down your focus into a single focal point for the year. Use the word you choose like a banner across everything you do during the year. eg. if you choose excellence as your word, then do everything during the year with excellence ie. in your career, business, spiritual life, relationships, family life, health.
How do you choose your One Word: Ask yourself a few questions: eg: Was there something you learnt during 2018? Is there something holding you back that you need to work on in 2019? Is there someone you admire, eg. a mentor, who is further down the track than you are? What qualities do they have that you admire? Are there messages you’ve been reading in the last month or so that have a consistent theme eg. be fearless, find your why (purpose), be more present, be intentional, have more fun, etc ?
To get you started, and if you are unsure, I have listed some inspirational words from the myoneword.org website. Choose one, or choose your own special word for the year: Listen, Joy, Courage, Intentional, Focus, Trust, Strength, Confidence, Gratitude, Confidence, Restore, Positive, Simplify, Renew, Abide, Discipline, Release, Healthy, Fearless, Confident, Brave, Balance, Bold, Faith, Hope, Grow, Obedience, Purpose, Believe, Love.
I hope the year ahead is SO MUCH MORE than you can ever dream or imagine.
